How to Set Up Universal Players in Redundancy

Creating and setting Display Devices:
    1. Set up two Universal Player machines, and make sure Universal Player is running.
      1. Select the correct version for the specific project
      2. For the GOAA project we are using v3.7.1.225
    2. Disable or delete all display devices on both Universal Players.
    3. Copy and paste the following 2 files: C:\Program Files (x86)\C-nario
      1. Garbage Collection Dual Proc (c-nario Player.exe)0
      2. Watchdog Update with 3/16/2017 date (Watchdog application)
    4. Decide on which of the two should act as the primary Universal Player.
    5. On the Universal Player you have selected to act as a primary create a new display device of type Canvas Controller.
    6. In the display device set the following settings:
      1. “Aspect” – Set the aspect of your whole video wall
      2. “Color Depth” – set to ‘32’
      3. “Resolution” – set to the individual screen resolution
      4. In the “Screen Arrangement”
        1. Create your regular screen arrangement for your primary set-up, for example Data Wall Primary set 4 horizontal by 4 verticals.
        2. Press ‘OK’ button
      5. Press the “Save” button on the top left of the Universal Player window.
    7. On the machine you have just set the screen arrangement go to “Settings”->”Canvas Controller”->”Advance Settings” tab
      1. Set the “ImageTileSize” to ‘4095’ (for AMD cards)

      b. Set “AutoReturn” on ‘True’
      c. Set “GPUsTimeoutMS” to 500
      d. Set “SendGPUNotifications” to ‘True

    1. These settings should be done on both the primary and the redundant player (the settings in the “Advance Settings” tab in “Canvas Controller Config”)

    1. In the “Canvas Controller Config” window go to the “UP Redundancy” tab
      1. Check the “Use Universal Player redundancy” check box
      2. Set the “Port” setting to ‘23232’
      3. Set the “Timeout” setting to ‘10000’  (TEN THOUSAND)
      4. Press on “Refresh Player” button
      5. Select the player that is acting as primary and press on the arrow to the right
    1. Select the player that will act as the redundant player and press on the arrow to the right
    2. Press “OK” (once OK is pressed the player that acts as redundant will restart itself and the created display device in the primary player should appear in the display device tab of the redundant player).

Importing the newly created channels on the master:

    1. On the master machine, go to the “Network Module”
    2. Create a new folder of channels and provide it with the name of the video wall you have just set up as redundant (for example, “GOAA_Players”)
    3. Right click on the newly created folder and select “Import Chainmail Channels”
    4. Check the checkbox next to the player you have just set up as redundant, wait for the icon next to their name to become green, and press on “Import”
    5. Go to the “Edit Module” and load the layout you wish to send to the players
    6. Press on “Transfer” on the top right of the Messenger window
    7. Select the folder you have created with the new players and press on “Send” on the top left of the Messenger window (when the layouts will arrive to the players for the first time the players will restart once)
    8. Note: Make sure to send the layout to both Primary and Backup players.
