Display Devices Settings

Display Devices Settings

1. What are Display devices? An organization of screens displayed on an output device for presentation of information in visual form.

2. What purposes do display devices serve? They are used to set playback and display settings for devices.

3. How do we use display devices? Up's send information to CC cores, then CC cores distribute that information to displays and graphic cards based on the screen arrangements.

What is Aspect ratio? The ratio of the width x Height of an image or display. Can be expressed in lowest common denominator.

ex.       (Landscape mode = Displays x 16:9 (Dx16):9                                                (Portrait mode = Displays x 9:16 (Dx9):16
            W x H = 1920 x 1080  / simplified (1920/120 = 16) (1080/120 = 9)               H x W= 1080 x 1920 / simplified (1080/120 = 9) (1920/120 = 16)
            Example:  displays = 8     (8x16):9 = 128:9                                                      Example:  displays = 8     (8x9):16 = 72:9

What is color depth? Also known as bit depth, color depth is the number of bits used to indicate the color of a single pixel in a bit mapped image or video frame buffer.

ex.          32 bit = 4,294,967,296 Colors (96 KB)            8 bit = 256 Colors (37 KB -62%)            4 bit = 16 Colors (13 KB -87%)
                                                                  2 bit = 4 Colors (13 KB -87%)                         1 bit = 2 Colors (4 KB -96%)

What is refresh rate? The frequency in which the image on a display is refreshed (usually expressed in hertz 60). Also can be the number of times in a second that a display's hardware updates its buffer. Includes the repeated drawing of identical frames.

What is Resolution? The number of pixels arranged horizontally and vertically on a display.
ex.            Landscape Mode = W x H      (1920 x 1080)                                                                   Portrait Mode = H x W       (1080 x 1920)
Multiple display formula = (# of displays x 1920) x 1080                                                               Multiple display formula = (# of displays x 1080) x 1920
example: 8 displays  (8x1920) x 1080 =15360 x 1080 simplified (153 x 108)                              Example: 8 displays  (8x1080) x 1920 =8640 x 1920 simplified (864 x 192)

What is Screen Arrangement? The virtual arrangement of windows in the software to represent the actual physical layout of displays positions on the Videowall or signage.
